Kinda Crunchy

Savannah will be starting Kindergarten this fall, which has lead to the great schooling debate at our house. I want to home school her. I've been thinking about it for years, and I really want to do it. Jesse is against the idea. Anyhow, this has lead to the whole hippy discussion. Jesse thinks I'm a hippy. I strongly disagree. Just because I care about the environment doesn't make me a hippy. Since it is Earth Day and all, I was pondering this as I spent the entire morning on the computer (seriously, how less hippy could I be?) and I remembered this "How Crunchy are You" quiz that I took a few years ago. Its based on Attachment Parenting, but I still like it. If anyone else is interested, you can find it here:

As I was taking the quiz, I realized that I'm not crunchy... I'm lazy! Alot of my answers were because it is the easier option.

Seriously though, it is earth day. Most of the stuff on the quiz was parenting based, so I think it left out a lot of important things. So in honor of Earth Day I thought I'd share some of the little things I do that help the Earth:
I recycle whenever possible.
I bring my own grocery bags to the store. (If you haven't heard of them, check out chicobag.com they are amazing!)
I try to consolidate errands, I'm not very good at it though.
I refuse to drive Jesse's Suburban. There are 4 of us for crying out loud, why do we need to drive a tank?
I buy things used and sell or donate clothing and household items when we are finished with them.
We use cloth diapers. I love them! More people should try them.
I try to use natural cleaning products when possible (Clorox GreenWorks, 7th Generation, and BioKlean are all fantastic!)
I try to support local businesses and love Farmer's Markets

Oh I'm so not crunchy I'm sprinkled with granola it said. You know their are a lot of good schools here if you are worried about the environment there are several charter schools. Albert Einstien Academy is supposed to be really good, a lady in my ward was the principal there when it first started. just in case you are wondering.

Yay! I'm so glad you're back to blogging!! I've been wondering how you've been doing!!!
Steve and I have already gotten into the home-school vs. public school debate -- I'm thinking of home-schooling Grayson, too. I just think whatever you think is best for your kids is what's best for your kids!!! Trust your mama instincts!!! :)

Alot of the military familys here are starting home school or sending them to japan schools. The kids really like it. We have the DODS in the system here and from what I hear teachers do really good until they have pasted there two year cert then it's all down hill. You are by far not granola.

I'm so with you. I am mostly just lazy, as well. I actually just got back from the commissary, where I used my 10 reusable bags! I love them! It is so much nicer to not have 500 paper bags cluttering up the house.
