We first bought Lincoln a potty when he was 18 months, just to get him used to it. He sat on it a few times, then decided that he was afraid of it. A few months later I decided to try a different little potty, but nope he was afraid of that one too. So we tried the potty ring that goes on the toilet, another fail. So we tried just the toilet... in any position that I could think of. Still afraid. At his last eval, the psychologist told me that with Lincoln's sensory issues I would be lucky if he were potty trained before he was 4.
Well, then one Saturday, almost 2 weeks ago I heard Lincoln in the bathroom. I walked in, prepared to get after him for playing in the bathroom, and much to my surprise he was naked, sitting on the toilet doing his thing. So I did what any mom would do, I wiped his butt then cheered and asked if he wanted to call Nana. He punched me. The next day I was getting him ready for church when he announced, "I pee-pee," and went running to the bathroom. He peed in the toilet, and when I started cheering he ran away and hid.
So staring that Monday I took a new approach. I let him run naked, and ignored the potty situation. To my utter amazement, we didn't have a single accident as long as he was naked. If I put any clothes on him at all he would just pee. We made it a week of that, and this week I decided that my goal was to get him into underwear. Monday morning I woke up, took him potty and put him in some undies and clothes. I talked to him about not peeing in them and we went off to the busstop. Now, granted the busstop is only about a half an hour long excursion, but he did it! We came home and he striped down naked. When it came time for speech, I gave him the option of diaper or undies, and he chose undies. He did great at speech and left there dry, so I decided to be brave and took him to Taco Bell and Dollar Tree sans diaper, all in all a 2 hour outing with no accidents! Of course, that afternoon he had some friends over and in a 2 hour period he had 3 accidents but for his first day of undies and being distracted I thought he did great!
Today I put him in undies and clothes and he managed to wear them all day, even at home without a single accident! I think I can officially say it... Lincoln is potty trained!

Marian hated being the center of attention. She still doesn't like to be the focus. When trying to potty train her, she wanted the "good job" but didn't want a big deal made of it. It was tricky! I'm so glad Lincoln has potty trained! That's fantastic.
Woot Woot! Go Lincoln!
