My House

A few months ago I was getting frustrated looking for a townhouse to rent in Davis County. I say a townhouse because I had decided that as a single mom I didn't want to worry about yard work or snow removal, so I was not moving into a house, and since we have a dog I pretty much ruled out apartments. That pretty much left a townhouse. Then one day I got an email from that asked if I had thought about buying a townhouse. No, I hadn't. The thought hadn't even occurred to me that I could buy a house on my own, but I decided to look into it. Much to my surprise I discovered that I probably could buy a townhouse all on my own. So I started looking. After a couple of weeks I found 2 places that I liked. I emailed the listings to my dad and asked if he would mine going to look at them for me. Just from the listings I fell in LOVE with one home even though I've heard my dad say many many times that when buying a house or a car you should not fall in LOVE until it is yours.

That was on a Friday. That Sunday I had a temple recommend interview with my bishop. I don't want to get into details, but it was the strangest interview I've ever been in. It was a new bishop, called less than a month before. Even though we'd lived in the same ward for 2 years, I had never spoken to him before. During the interview several things were said that I was kind of going, "How did you even know that?" As I was leaving he said a closing prayer and he asked that the Lord would help me know where I was supposed to live. I thought it was VERY strange because we hadn't even discussed moving or that I was looking for houses or anything.

The next morning my dad called and said that he had gone to look at the two houses (I had no idea that he was going until I got this call) and that he really thought I needed to put an offer in on the second one (the one I loved) that very day. I told him that I had talked to a mortgage broker the week before just to see if I could qualify, but that we hadn't discussed anything concrete. I got off the phone and had a conference call for work. When I got off that call I had a totally unexpected email from the mortgage broker with my pre-approval letter. I had my dad call my realtor aunt and we got the offer in that afternoon. We later learned that they homeowners had gotten 4 offers that day. The next day we got a counter offer that they would accept our offer exactly as written IF we could close within 21 days.

Being a first time home buyer, buying a home in another state on that tight of a time frame is NOT something that I would recommend. Especially not if you are also working full time and raising 2 kids and all that comes along with that. It was crazy! But I feel so blessed to have this house, and I know this is where we are supposed to be.

Wow, that got long. Now on to pictures. I'm a little bit embarrassed that we've been here almost a month and I'm just now posting these. Especially since they were taken 2 days after we moved in. Things are a bit unsettled in the pictures because we moved in on Wednesday and I gave myself until Saturday to be unpacked because I knew that once I went back to work that Monday the unpacking was never going to get done. And I was right because I haven't unpacked a single thing since that day.

Apparently my pictures got all mixed up when adding them to blogger, but I'm too lazy to put them in the right order.

Kitchen: at first I was nervous because its pretty small, but its really efficient and I have plenty of cabinets and counter space.
: Dining area: Holy cow, that bar is HUGE! We rarely use the table since we moved in.
Living room: I can't seem to get a decent picture of it. I have since moved the couch back a bit and the whole room seems a lot bigger.
Entry way: This was taken the first morning we were there, so there are still plenty of boxes.
Front of the house. The big window on the left is the master bedroom.
Master bath: please excuse the mismatched towels and whatnot, it was the first day and I was using whatever I pulled out first. I don't seem to have a decent picture of the master bedroom, but its awesome! Its huge and has a walk-in closet, a dressing table in the bathroom, jetted tub, etc.
The closets are easily my favorite feature of the house. There is a big storage closet under the stairs, 2 large linen closets upstairs, laundry closet upstairs, walk-in in the master, and these are the closets in the kids rooms.
Lincoln's bedroom: His room isn't THAT huge, he still sleeps in a toddler bed because he likes small confined spaces.
Kid's bathroom. They never use their tub because the like mine too much.
And last but not least, Savannah's room with her unmade bed.
Again, these pictures are pretty rough because we had JUST moved in. There are more pictures on the walls and less boxes now. Oh, and there is also a half bath downstairs, but no picture of that.

That is so exciting! What a great story. I love that the Lord knows you and loves you and takes care of you. And I love your new house. I am really impressed you took the plunge and bought it. Good for you!
