So , we haven't had a bed for the past month. When we moved, someone refused to take the kid's bed with us. We've been planning to get a new king size bed for what, like 4 years now, and that someone insisted that we would be getting one as soon as we moved. He also insisted that since the kid's broke the frame and the boxspring on their bed, and their mattress has seen a few too many accidents it was not moving with us. So we got rid of it. And after the move and looking at our finances we decided that it was not happening right away. So, for the past 45 days the kids and I have been sharing our queen size bed in Savannah's room, and Jesse has been sleeping on the pull out sofa sleeper. Except of course for the times that we've had visitors when all four of us slept in Savannah's room.
Well, that all changed yesterday! It all started around four in the afternoon when Jesse asked if I was ready to go to Ikea yet. I was a bit confused since I had brought it up in morning and was told that we were not getting a bed this weekend. But, I was not going to argue with him when he was finally willing to go, so I got myself and the kids ready and loaded in the Suburban. We get to Ikea, and Jesse decides that its too crowded, and we headed back home without even so much as parking the car. Savannah was crying because she loves Ikea. So then, at 8 PM, Jesse announces that he wants to go back to Ikea. It closes in an hour, but again, I'm desperate for a bed so we went. It was still a bit crowded, but not as bad. Savannah whined the entire time we were there because we wouldn't eat at the restaurant there (we had just eaten before we left the house) and Lincoln whined the entire time because, well, Ikea is a bit overwhelming for him. We felt rushed because they were closing, but luckily we knew pretty much what we were getting, and managed to get out of there by 9:15. We even managed to keep the arguing to a minimum. Jesse has really strong opinions about home decorating, and unfortunately they are pretty much opposite of mine.
Then came the really fun part. We got everything in the back of the car (between the bed and the dresser we had like 8 boxes that were like 7 feet long each) but we had to fold down all the seats except three. That left Savannah without a seat. Luckily, Ikea is only like 7 minutes from our house, so Jesse insisted that I just let her sit on my lap. We get like a block away, and Jesse gets worried about the mattress on the top of the car. He insisted that even though it was tied down really well we roll down the windows and hold onto it because it was catching a bit of air and making him nervous. So we did. Oh, and in order to get from Ikea to our house you have to get on I-15 for one exit. There is no way around it because of all the canyons. So we were "those people" driving 30 MPH on the freeway holding onto the mattress on top of their car with a kid on their lap. Good times!
We finally got home and realized that it was just Jesse and I to get all this stuff up to our bedroom. And all the parking spots in front of our house were taken. We have a staircase that turns, and another turn at the top of the stairs. Plus the kids were both still awake and Lincoln really wanted to get stepped on apparently. We did manage, but after heaving the king size mattress up the stairs, I wanted to die! 10:30 PM, everything was finally in. I asked Jesse to start putting it together while I put the kids to bed. He pulled a total Jesse and did the whole, "I don't want to put it together. You do it. I'm fine to sleep on the couch again..." You know the routine. So I attempted to put the kids to bed and put the bed together myself. Lincoln of course refused to go to bed because he could tell I was doing man work, and needed a man to help me, and he was going to be that man. So I put together the bed by myself with a two-year-old trying to help. We all know how much "help" that is. I truly am super woman!
The best part was, as we were finally going to bed at 1 AM, I was telling Jesse about it and when I said that Lincoln got out him little plastic tools and was trying to help me, Jesse had the nerve to say, "Great, his first putting stuff together experience was with his mom, not me. Great!" Seriously. I'd post a picture of our beautiful new bed, but since I still haven't done the dresser our room has clothes everywhere. 45 days without a dresser or bed will do that to a room.

Oh the nerve of men sometimes, so did Jesse get to sleep in the bed? I mean it's like the little red hen don't you think? Good for you for putting getting all together. Very impressive!
Super woman should have made Jesse sleep on the couch again.

Carley, I am SO impressed! Remember in middle school when you were so excited that you had changed a lightbulb all by yourself?! And look at you now! Putting FURNITURE together! Bravo!!! And seriously -- kick Jesse for me -- I would if I could -- for those snarky comments! Remind him that it's HIS job to keep you happy :)
