There have been a few times in the past few weeks that I've done a hairdo and forgotten to take pictures. This was one of those. Messy pigtails is kind of Savannah's "signature do." We started doing these when she was 3, and she wears them at least once a week. One of my good friend in San Diego used to call it her "Fraggle Rock" hair. So we did a redo today. Messy buns are best done when the hair is wet, but part way dry. Savannah's hair was still really wet when we did these this morning, so they don't look quite as good as usual.
Start by parting the hair down the middle. Pull one side into a pigtail, but only pull the hair halfway through making a loop.
If your daughter's hair is as long as Savannah's you'll need to do another loop the other way.
Then move the hair around, pull a piece or two from the bottom up to the top and vice versa and pin them in place to make it look more messy.
Do the other side, then we like to add a headband or wrap.
