Some hairdos are a matter of trial and error. This one completely evolved as I was going along. I started by doing a one side French braid. Its very similar to a waterfall braid, where you only pull hair from the top, not from below. But this time go ahead and add the hair you pick up into the braid instead of pulling it through.
I've done this braid many times, but for some reason I just didn't like it this day. Partly because I went too low while I was doing it, and partly because she was having a crazy hair day and from the front, the non-braided side looked like a hot mess. So I decided to try doing the same thing on the other side and joining them in the middle. I didn't take a picture at that point, because it looked even worse. What I ended up doing is kind of a Y (backwards, but if you started at the other side of the head it would be a Y). I did a short one sided French braid on the other side of her head, and incorporated it into the first braid, which I continued all the way across. I kind of like the way it turned out.
